Translation of the work of a Roman writer, who lived in the 2nd century and described the history of the Roman Empire from Romulus to Emperor Trajan. Together with its additions, it is the first Hungarian-language work that includes Roman history before Caesar. It also lay the foundations for the educational reforms that were implemented in the second half of the 18th century. Márton Benkő – the rector of the Reformed College in Marosvásárhely, later a teacher in Nagyenyed – gave a comprehensive overview of world history in the recommendation. In his understanding of history, the so-called biological-organic theory and the idea of the four kingdoms are mixed. The former is of antique origin and has a cyclical approach (Florus was its most significant ancient representative), the essence of which is that it compares the process of history and the functioning of the state to a living being. On the other hand, the latter is based on a biblical background, following the Church Fathers. According to the idea developed by the Protestant thinkers - Luther, Melanchthon, Zwingli, and Comenius -, history progressed through four empires – Assyrian-Babylonian, Persian, Macedonian (of Alexander the Great), and Roman – towards the world's end.
20th-century half leather.
