The first art history work in Hungarian. As a teacher at the University of Nagyszombat, the Jesuit author emphasised nurturing the mother tongue and the dissemination of modern knowledge, especially the presentation of secular sciences in Hungarian. This work is the first result of his efforts, and it provides a popular history of architecture from the beginning of the world to the end of the Roman era, illustrated with copper engravings. It is not only an architectural summary but rather a summary of cultural history, in which he uses the Bible and the descriptions of ancient authors to present the old, famous architectural works, such as Noah's Ark, the Tower of Babel, the Egyptian pyramids, the Circus Maximus or the Colossus of Rhodes. In addition, it also gives an idea of the general culture of the age and the nations, as well as describes the languages and customs.
