The recipient – who was addressed as “Gyurikám” – first visited the United States in 1984. According to Kertész's letter, Spiró was his "occasional secretary" in Hungary during his absence. As such, he mentions publishers, royalties and contracts. He also wrote a few lines related to the new release of his novel “Sorstalanság” (Fateless).
