The German painter Robert Libeski, son of the painter Adolf Dagobert Libeski, was self-taught. In his youth he was friends with Josef Hoffmann and other aspiring artists. In 1921-39 Libeski ran a batik studio in Paris, specializing in figural wall hangings. He was part of the "Ecole de Paris," maintained contacts with Fernand Leger, Tsuguharu Fujita, Jules Pascin, de Veroquier, and Aristide Maillol, and was significantly influenced by Marquet and Braque. He taught at painting schools in Paris and Vienna. Around 1950 he moved to Vienna, where he became a member of the Secession in 1952. In Libeski's still lifes, nudes, flowers and portraits in oil and watercolor, the constant search for new painting techniques remains recognizable. Libeski was friends with Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Wander Bertoni and Oskar Kokoschka, among others. Further Artists and Terms: Gustav Klimt, Carl Moll, Josef Hoffmann, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Matthias Herrmann, Lois Pregartbauer, Rudolf von Alt, Oskar Kokoschka, Albin Egger-Lienz, Koloman Moser, Richard Gerstl, Broncia Koller-Pinell, Anton Mahringer, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Karl Revy, Egon Schiele.
